Jason Cowan is a science and computer science teacher at Davenport High School. In addition to teaching for past 10 years, Jason is also the head junior high baseball and basketball coach, as well as an assistant high school football,basketball, and baseball coach. Growing up in the  neighboring town of Chandler, Jason attended Oklahoma State University and the Univesity of Central Oklahoma after high school. 

 

What led you to teaching?
I had many teachers and coaches that left a positive mark on me so I'm hoping to do the same.

Did you have anyone who influenced your decision to become an educator?
Mrs. McAdoo in 4th grade, Coach Patterson and Coach Howard in high school.

What would you say most motivates you to teach?
Getting to see kids accomplish things they've worked for or things they didn't think they could do.

What are you most excited or passionate about?
Getting to spend time with my family.

What do you find most challenging about being a teacher?
Finding time to get everything done.

What's the best thing to happen since you started teaching?
During Falls Creek, a student I had in a class that year, wrote me a thank you note.

What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?
I've worked in IT/Computer programming so I have tried another profession.

What are three things every teacher should have?
Patience, humor, and be flexible.

Jason and his wife have been married for 27 years and have three children – Nadea, Nate, and Brendan who are all out of high school. Tara teaches in Chandler.  When they get the chance, Jason says they like to go hiking and visit the beach.
